Did you try this though...?
All the time, It's how I clean up the long neglected, oil stained stocks mmppres sends me. Cleans them right up......
OP, hit the stains with a few swipes of 220 to open up the grain.

Im having trouble locating the acid. Is it under a certain brand name?
I see "Bar keeper" or somethong like that has OA, but its a liquid, I want the crystals.

My efforts of stripping, using boiling water and washing were done before Warpig mentioned the Oxalic acid so no not yet.

Savogran 12 Oz Wood Bleach is what I have. I checked, Home depot will ship it to your local store, so will True Value. Amazon probably sells it too.

I grabbed some bar keepers friend yesterday and it does NOT work.... at least not on what I'm dealing with anyway.

Spoke too soon!
In better light the stains have lightened up a little so I will repeat the process over the next couple days and see how it comes out.

Yup, Barkeepers friend has, I think, 10% OC. May get you to where you want. If not go 100% that'll get you there in a jiffy.

Savogran 12oz is a nogo at canadian Home depot....
