Found this beautiful Winchester languishing in a cut down cruddy old stock. A good friend told me he had an old stock he got from his Grandpa. When I saw it I was very surprised to find what I found. Here she is all put back together. She shoots like a dream and the grandkids love her.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. The poor thing was setting in a local Pawn Shop in a corner sticking out of a pile of cruddy old shotguns and no one knew what they had. One look down the barrel and I had to have her perfect uncut barrel no aftermarket holes anywhere. $350 for her and $125 for a stock from a friend and $75 in bands and sling swivels and found a bayonet for $175.... $725 total for my favorite shooting bolt action. She just barely outshoots my 1903 but shooting her is simply kinder on me than the Springfield. Plus I have a soft spot for the 1917 my very first Rifle was a shaved down Remington 1917 with its ears clipped and a Weaver Scope. Took my first Elk at 12 yrs Old with it on Mt St Helens Washington on a ridge above Spirit Lake that blew away 2 yrs latter.

So $550 for the rifle? That’s a very nice deal on a Winchester. Nice work putting it back together!

Yeah I got a great deal. The proper parts took some time to find with the matching bluing and patina. But I am very proud to own her and the grandkids love shooting her with the Bayonet on it while wearing the old Brodie Helmet. I won`t Let them shoot any of the service rifles without the bayonet and helmet.
