Saipan?
Sounds like a battle on Saipan described by Ed Buie in the Winter 2018 GCA
Journal. He was lauding Marine Capt. Bob Montgomery and included the tank battle in which Bob's AT Tracks were involved:
The 2nd Marines landed on Saipan on 15 June 1944. Bob was in the Half Track Platoon as one of the Half Track Commanders. On D+2, just after midnight, the Japanese
launched an attack led by 24 light tanks and an infantry regiment in support. The Weapons Company 37mm anti-tank guns and bazooka teams attached to the infantry battalions engaged the tanks. Our halftracks were near the Regimental CP and were also sent to stop the large Japanese penetration of our lines. Along with one of the reserve infantry companies, the breach in the line was sealed and 21 tanks were destroyed, only three got away. The Half Tracks were credited with six tanks destroyed
Real men measure once and cut.
