Remington 03-A3
Picked this up at the gun show last weekend. Don't know much about them, so could use some opinions if it looks original. Haven't pulled it out of the stock, but everything external has an R stamp. Receiver and 2 groove barrel both date to 11-43. All I've done to it is pull the front sight protector off due to lack of clearance between it and top of sight, and cleaned the bore to a mirror shine. Looks to me like Ogden re-parked the hand guard clips, barrel bands, trigger guard, and butt plate, then put it on a rack. Thanks for any help.
Regards, Don

I agree - nice-looking rifle. some of the parts (possibly the bands and buttplate) are replacements, judging by their finish.

Thanks for taking the time to look at it. I'm not fussed if it's not "original", I got it to shoot against my Mauser, Mosin, and Enfield. Remington must of had their production ducks in a row to have barrels and receivers of the same month to put together. I'm mostly wondering what Ogden did in the rebuilds. The bands, clips, buttplate, and trigger guard are very green and look like they came out of the park tank yesterday.

I've got one of these Remington's too. Mine is also two groove.

The rifle has been arsenal-overhauled at Benecia Arsenal and/or Ogden Arsenal, refinished, and re-assembled from mixed parts. All parts appear to be Remington parts.
The rifle is in spendid condition.

My 03A3 that I rebuilt from on that had been sporterized. They are great rifles.

So the BA stamp is Benecia Arsenal. I'll do some research on them. Thanks for the info.
Got it out for the first shoot a few days ago. I mostly shoot light cast loads from the 50yd line in my mil-surp rifles. My 1916 Spanish Mauser in .308 likes Berry's 150g. FP's over 16g. of 2400 best, so tried that recipe in this. Pulled the high one, but the rest were in around 1.25". Good enough for a first try. I'm very happy with this rifle and now considering the '03 slot in my US rifle group filled.

Got a little more work done with this rifle a couple days ago. I think it's going to do well with Speer 125g TNT's.

I'd be pretty happy with that. But being a service rifle, I'd be inclined to stick with the 150gr pills. But that's just me, not pushing you away from that good result.
