9.3x62 Mauser Build

The Lee Enfield Marks 1 though 111 used a bushing around the front trigger guard screw while the Model 1903 used a rear
bushing around the rear trigger guard screw. Easy part to make too.

As I stated earlier, I picked this Husqvarna for a few reasons:

The bolt handle is already configured in an attractive contour:

The barrel mounted swing swivel is too cool:

The rear sight is thiiiiiis close to an express style. I think I can fit a couple leaves in this base with a little mill work:

The caliber is a perfect choice for a safari rifle AND the script denoting the caliber on the barrel is in a simple old-school style:

A couple things I don't like....

The receiver has been drilled and tapped. I like the Husqvarna crest. I would have kept it if there weren't these holes. Instead, I'll fill the holes and add a strip of stippling to the receiver ring. Another Germanic touch, I think.

I don't like the front sight. I'll change this out for a banded sight.

If you scroll back up to the first pic, you can see I have a good bit of inletting ahead of me. Just a quick update before bed though.

Do you think a stock bolt installation is necessary for the 9,3x62mm ? I know that 338 and 375 calibers have a stock bolt (s) ?

I did notice on the CMP website that some guys were talking about using new Walter barrels in 9,3x62mm for their M1 rifles,
personally I would never consider such a project.

I will be putting stock bolts in this rifle. Reinforcement and a bit of added flash - that’s an easy decision.

Progress!

I'm off to buy a barrel inletting tool for the last stretch of barrel channel. The barrel is a uniform .762 through there. That $50 tool is going to save a lot of time!

There are a couple spots around the rear tang that I already don't like. They're small enough that I think bedding compound will hide most of it. Not a bad start!
