Wow, I missed a lot on my previous post. Sunray mentioned the HMCS Haida National Historic Site and that was who I had contacted. I did get one e-mail stating they were forwarding my query to someone who could give a definitive answer, but I never got a reply from said person.

And Brit Plumber mentioned the German SK C/32 gun, but the shell casing length is 18" on that gun vs. the almost 26" length on mine.

While likely the "1939" is a date, could it refer to something else? This could preclude the date range on Cinders' "035" Svenska idea...
