Jane's Manual?
Hi All,
Hoping someone here might have a copy of Jane's Artillery Book, I'm at wit's end trying to identify an artillery shell casing I have. I've posted here about it in the past, maybe a year ago or so and the best I could get then was it *might* be a Canadian
4" naval shell...
Thanks!
Russ

Just thought I'd bring this forward, I don't know...don't think it's Canadian
. Ours were pretty clearly marked.

I had another look and the 35 code at 9 O'clock on the close up of the primer hole may also mean;
35 (035) Svenska Metallverken, Blikstorp, Sweden
(1954 to 1965)

I can't help but wonder if this is a 105 shell of some sort. This Wiki pic of a 4" QF shell shows the projectile to be slightly larger above the cannalure

Thanks Jim, I should have hunted that thread up myself. Don't remember where/how I got the "Canadian" connection, I did e-mail one of the docents of a (? Kingfisher class ship ?) and never got a reply. The shell shape looks identical to a QF 4" except for the tail markings.

Thanks Cinders, I'll poke around some more. I did find an online "Jane's" but it was so clunky to operate I gave up...

Wow, I missed a lot on my previous post. Sunray mentioned the HMCS Haida National Historic Site and that was who I had contacted. I did get one e-mail stating they were forwarding my query to someone who could give a definitive answer, but I never got a reply from said person.
And Brit Plumber mentioned the German
SK C/32 gun, but the shell casing length is 18" on that gun vs. the almost 26" length on mine.
While likely the "1939" is a date, could it refer to something else? This could preclude the date range on Cinders' "035" Svenska idea...
