WW2 US Canteen Cover origin?

I've been trying to figure out the origin/end user of the cover for this US canteen. This canteen cover has belt loops rather than the usual US style belt clip. The canteen it's self is US made 1944 and is made of aluminium. Did US forces ever use this style of belt loop attachment for their canteens? I did wonder about the cover being of Scandinavian origin but I don't really know. Thanks for any help and replies.

Can you make out that circular stamp inside the flap? Try turning it in bright light, sometimes from a side angle. I don't think it's US though. No M1910 belthook.

Thanks Jim, I've viewed the circular stamp as you suggest but unfortunately it is just too feint to make out the writing.

To the best of my knowledge, the US never used such belt loops. I am however a relative novice at canteen collecting just picking them up here and there. From WWI through early Vietnam they used the belthooks After that vertical steel snaps.

I just picked up a really smelly (musty) WWI cover yesterday and hand washed it with Dawn dish liquid and water. When I got it wet, markings I could not previously read stood out very strongly. Might work with your ring. Even the US which I could not previously see at all appeared. Be careful though, you don't want to create staining marks on that. Tiny bit of plain water shouldn't hurt it but your call on the attempt.

I can't find the meaning for having no wire hanger. I did notice some Dutch belts only had 1 row of holes near the bottom of the belts edge.
Maybe repaired ? Or designed to attach from the loops on other gear ?
Did see some canteens on another link worn over a pants belt. I believe they were Air Force.
But IDK...........

Hopefully some of our Dutch members will chime in if they know.

Yes seen that one along with some others with additional writing on them. IIRC all were Dutch made.
On one of the Netherland links I seen a belt or pack strap that had a Ink- Circular stamp with some letters in it, but can,t locate it now. It looked much like the size of the faint stamp on your pouch.
Maybe a KLu or KL issue, one of these 2 were said to be known to rarely mark their gear.
About the best I can do/remember.
