Deactivated “Drill Purpose” Ishapore Enfield #1 MKIII SMLE
The deactivated “Drill Purpose” Ishapore Enfield #1 MKIII SMLE in .303 British
arrived yesterday and I unboxed it today. I bought this rifle as a parts donor for the Ishapore Enfield #1 MKIII barreled receiver I have.
For what it is, its in pretty good condition, better than I expected and the parts its missing like the pin for the Front Nose Cap Screw and Stacking Swivel I have. It’s the furniture I needed the most and I think that with the markings, once cleaned, will be pretty sweet.
It really is a shame that the receiver and barrel were drilled and a hardened steel pin was welded in place because it has a beautiful shiny bore with strong rifling. However, I lucked out on the bolt. The description from the vendor stated that “The firing pin has been shortened and bolt face filled.” Nether of these have been done to this bolt.
I almost feel bad taking this apart….

They sure did mark it completely too, this one is good as a DP piece for a collection.

Time to order a second one I guess...hope for something better or different. All matching numbers too isn't it?

Except for the magazine looking like it's been used on three other rifles.

Didn't notice that. They shouldn't be numbered to the rifles anyway...really. But that's OK too... I was looking at the major players of the rifle.

Yeah, the Enfield I've run across seem to have magazines serialized to match the rifle. Doesn't seem to make much sense to me; We swapped mags all the time when I was in. Then again these girls can be finicky when it comes to mags. Maybe one of the Enfield SMLE experts can shed some light on the subject to serialized magazines.

Interesting rifle, I feel for your conundrum, it does seem a shame to break her for parts.
Great wall hanger as part of an Enfied collection.

A question for the smiths among us, would it be possible to repair the action body and reuse it?
