My 1917 Colt 1911 question......
I'm pretty sure the DOM of my pistol is 1917. I also know the magazine is not the original. I think the "S" on the lip means it was made by Scovill for Colt during WWII. My question is what would be the original magazine for this pistol? And how much should I pay for one? Also, was the holster made during WWII? Any idea on value of the pistol? Thanks ahead of time for the help.

You can get M1916 holsters dated for WW1, that one is a civilian model. You could also use a Mills pattern canvas holster.
Yes, the mag is late and you should be looking for a two tone mag. Prices would be relative to where you are.

I would think your pistol would have a two tone magazine with no lanyard loop. Clawson, Collectors guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols Models of 1911 and 1911A1, states the last Colt M1911 shipped with a lanyard loop magazine was #125566.

BayHunter, Your M1911 #157096 has been shipped to Springfield Armory 06/04/17
The slide stop has been changed It's a M1911A1 it should be of type 1 checkered, and not serrated.
Marking top of the barrel correct for this period.

Very nice.... I'm currently looking now for 1911 in.455, although I could have one in .45......... but the .455 could live at home ( just our gun laws, but a lot of folk fought hard so we could still collect or shoot old pistols)

Bump to the top. For insurance purposes, I would appreciate someone in the know to give an approximate value for my pistol. Thanks in advance for any information.
