I'm hardly an expert on the markings of these rifles but this looks legitimate. The stock appears to have been replaced and so is missing the appropriate mark but the receiver has the (T).

looks like one of the 400 dollar Indian rifles, 15 years later the prices is 4.8 times higher.

I would question the installation of the grenade launcher features and the middle band set up for a grenade launcher flip up sight. It had some parts replaced in service, so it is not technically original.

Surely a 1942 dated Savage might not have the S51 on the butt. The T looks correct and there is a faint scope number on the wrist.

I'd say it looks legit. I'd be tempted at that price!

It's a question of semantics. It's a real 4T alright, but it's well loved & well travelled, having acquired plenty of wear & some replacement parts over the years. To my mind it's 'genuine' but not in 'factory original' condition. Most of the Savage rifles I've seen did have the S51 on the butt but not most of the other 'typical' markings as exhibited by later 1943, 1944 & 1945 BSA rifles. The S51 seems to have appeared first in the marking system, well before the typical placement of the D6E, T, etc.

I'm not near my books but the "star" on the reinforce means something it would be in the broad arrow by Skennerton positive I have seen the explanation for it.

I didn’t notice that... I used to have a Savage LE that I had sent Brian Dick some pictures of in regards to an unrelated question. He pointed out the star and if I remember correctly said it meant the receiver (or possibly the barrel) was compromised in some way.

A Star is also the ownership mark of Indonesia. Will be interesting to see what this one means

Yes, or IIRC a rusty or otherwise worn barrel........
