Your C with the Broad Arrow looks like a Canadian
Land Service and the COTC stands for Canadian Officers Training Corps and the D maybe Dalhousie University. I will keep checking around for more info.

My M1917 was a re-import I bought two years ago from a local dealer. The stock has been heavily sanded, but proof and Canadian
stamp are still visable. Reciever and Barrel (7-18) are both Remington. I searched for traces of red paint with no avail. I suspect it was present, however, as the front of the stock seems to have been sanded a little harder than the rest of the stock, suggesting the importer wanted it removed for cosmetic reasons. It's too bad. Overall, it's a nice rifle and a pretty good shooter.

Could you please send a pic of the markings on the right side of the buttstock?
