I have one on the workbench right now. Ours was much bigger and our guys took the P38 when available for their dogtag chain. Yes, we had some stuff that was barely edible...ham and egg...something in mushroom gravy...creme of chalk soup... A couple.

The ones we used in early 70's in the cadets and which were also issued to the Regulars as well were FREDS a spoon/can opener/bottle top opener commonly call F*cken Ridiculus Eating Device by one and all.......
