Seeking Specific Rifle(s) by s/n - tie to original vet and combat use

Hi all -- I'm on a new quest trying to track down one or two rifles. I have a grouping to an Aussie who joined the Canadian Army for service in Korea and he has noted his rifles by serial number in one of his paybooks.

It would really be something to find the rifle he carried and reunite with the whole group. I am assuming the sniper model is the one he took with him overseas (with scout/sniper platoon), but would not be opposed to finding and/or acquiring one or both. I am sure it is possible to locate these, but is it probable?

80L8024 - sniper rifle

83L9704 - standard rifle

What Canadian unit was he with?

83L9704 should be a 1945 dated action, but is low enough it is in the '44/'45 changeover, so it could be a 1944.

80L8024 won't be findable.

The 83L is not in my database of numbers. In fact, there are very few 1945 rifles listed, in fact only 58 from a listing of 680+ serial numbers.

The sniper rifle comes close; a member here has a scope mount just 21 serial numbers away from the number you list.

The Italian Navy just sold off their remaining No. 4 rifles to a gun dealer. Nearly if not all are 1945 or later LB made rifles. I however don‘t think he got a listing of the serials in advance and checking such a large number for a certain number would not be something a dealer would do, unless you pay him a fortune.
