This find is really exciting: This week, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's Petrel, in conjuntion with the U.S. Navy, released the news that they had found and photographed the IJN aircraft carrier Kaga from the Battle of Midway lying off the Midway Archpeligo.
This book is the story of a Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber driver who fought in the Battle of Midway and, what's more, scored hits on three IJN ships including the aircraft carriers Kaga and Hiryu. Lt. Jack "Dusty" Kleiss described the damage to the front of the flight deck as looking like it was "folded like a taco" and the footage below at :007 bears this out.

In May of 1998, Robert Ballard carried out an expedition to find all five carriers (one American) sunk in the Battle of Midway. He was only able to find one, the U.S.Yorktown. Allen's crew are continuing the search started by Ballard. They feel that they are close to finding a second carrier. Allen's foundation is dedicated to finding and documenting the great wrecks of WWII.
