M1 Garand- Advise me
Several years ago I picked up a Springfield Armory M1
Garand from late 1942 with a barrel that is marked Excel Gardner MA. I don't know much about that other than that someone suggested that it may be a Blue Sky import with that barrel mark. Whatever it is- it's garbage on the inside and I want to have at least the barrel replaced and have someone that knows the M1 go through it and see if everything is right with it.
I live in CT and have no clue if there are any 'smiths around me that know what they're doing. Does anyone know of anyone local to CT? If not, are there recommendations on where to send it?
If I'm rebarreling anyway, should I go with a .308? Any other advice?
Thanks in advance.

You could have the CMP
re-barrel your M1
and go over the entire rifle.

.30-06 it shall remain, then. I will give the CMP
a call one of these days and see about sending it to them and let them work their magic. Thanks for the replies.

Good advice. If you can't find a M1
gunsmith up North, try Gus Fisher in Virginia. He's kind of the last word in Garands.

Orion 7 on Long Island is a good choice. I don't know where you are in CT, but if you take the ferry across LI Sound,to Port Jefferson, they are not far from there...

My first choice would be to send it to Gus Fisher.then when you get it back, you will know everything is right as rain.
