.303 British Hornady 174 gr Vintage Match Accuracy, Experiences generally ?

Hello altogether,

I couldn't find real answers to this question above, despite several searchings. Therefore: What is the accuracy with this load in an Lee-Enfield No.4, in an Enfield P14, in an Lee-Enfield Mark 3 in 5-shot groups at 100 yards, for example ?

What is it at 300-1000 yards, the same group-size ?

What about the function, reliability in this types of rifles ?

Any experience is here really welcome - because suddenly a bit of this match ammo is offered here in Switzerland. At a reasonably price.. . As a true surprise..

Those questions can't really be answered as it would vary from rifle to rifle. In my experience with Hornady ammunition in rifles will outperform standard hunting and surplus ammunition. It is on par with commercial ammunition loaded with Sierra MatchKing Boat-Tail Hollow Point. But the ammunition performance has more to do with the rifle condition, its load preference, and the guy behind the trigger.

Like usabaker says, every rifle shoots every brand and type of ammo differently. Lee-Enfields have the additional quick of not having the same bore diameter. They can be from .311" to .315" and be considered ok. Hornady uses .312" and .3105" diameters for their bullets. Neither of which will shoot well out of a .313 to 5 inch barrel. You have to slug the barrel to find out what its diameter is.
The Pattern 14 doesn't have this issue. For them you need to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo that rifle shoots best.

Thanks, especially to Sunray. The barrel dimensions here are and remain a chaptre of its own, yes, true.. .
I have now - surprisingly - the option to measure the velocity of factory ammo at an 100 M-Hunting Shooting Range.
I will test both my P 14 and my M17. Each one with at least 3 different bullet weights and 3 different producers. Maybe I invest some of the 80 rounds of the Hornady .303 British Vintage Match in my P 14..
Of course I took this opportunity and bought this ammo in the meantime It came in the white boxes, by the way. And as a last delivery ! There were 2 other shooters necessary to get this ammo. The importer requires for such rare demanded ammo at least an order of 200 rounds. I had an really good and quick reacting dealer..

Back to the Hornady Match itself: some of you could test this round. I'm really sure ;-) So please inform us all. Every group-information helps to answer the question. I do not reload.
And, additionally, there was seldom an .303 British Match round available. As far as I know only the PMC, in the middle of the 90's. Therefore I wonder what the performance of the Hornady V.M. will be.
