    The wood you see inset at the sides is because of spongy wood or damage. It wouldn't leave new with that. The forged trigger guard is early so a replacement there, I think the barrel should be line material manufacture. There were some Springfield barrels used early and towards the end of the line though... I think this is an accumulation of parts but in new shape. He maybe means he's never fired it.
