Bounce of 5 german bayonets
Hi all experts
I got a bounce of 5 german bayonets
One S 98/05 Aa butcher blade with leather scabbard
Three S 98/05 Na butcher blade with steel scabbard
One S 71/84 with leather scabbard
Most of them not in best shape
But all of the scabbard have the original frog
All of the leather is werry stiff and fragile
Two of the S 98/05 have bakelite grips?
Have not seen this before, but looks as original fittet.
The other two wooden grips
I have tryed to google bakelite grips
For S 98/05 with no result.
Anyone knows about this?

Why not post photos of what you asking about because it makes visualising much easier if people can see what you are talking about.
It sounds like you are saying that you have bakelite grips on a WW1 German
Butcher bayonet?

Didn't some/a few butcher bayonets get reconditioned during WW2, anyone?

I don't think so. The butcher bayonet was phased out at the end of WWI. I checked Bayonets of the World and came up empty on bakelite grips which started use in 1937 on the K98
bayonets.

OK
Sorry for taking your time.
I have my son to take of the grips of the two
Bakelite bayonets.
It is werry well made. But fake.
Looks like a cast. Both pairs have same
Number on the back. And simulare marks from
The cast die. The bayonets is from different
Makers.
I will post photos of the five bayonets. When I
Got time.
But dont waist any more time on bakelite grips.

Lets still have a look at them if and when you can, please.
I do have 2 or 3 Butcher bayonets myself which I'll try and dig out.

Are the bayonets real with replacement grips? If so, you can get wooden grips, also reproductions but I've found from experience they are not all that well made for fit. I only have three butcher blades, one normal, one sawback with replacement grips and one ersatz sawback which is one of my best bayonets in my collection. I'm still looking for one with the sawback removed.

All the bayonets are real.
But I think I leave them with the “fake grips”
Repro wooden fake grips are still fake grips.
I will post photos when I have the time.
