Congratulations on your early QHMC find. Per Carbine Club NL #334 Quality H.M.C. Update by Ron Wellman, your QHMC appears correct. Your Inland Barrel date of 6-43 falls in the reported range of 1600xxx to 1610xxx. The QU swivel was reported to 16024xx. The highest reported square S sight with Q on right side is 1599617. The Rock-Ola supplied stock with the early large CC close to I-cut is reported to 1625251. Sounds like you have a very desirable early QHMC. I have 1558xxx. It has a type 1 Q LT hammer and the type 2 Q DA slide. Some of the early QHMC flip sights were staked with a round punch. Here's a photo. Join the CC and fill out a data sheet. Best regards.

Hi dbarn, thanks for the picture of your sight showing the stake marks, mine has the same stake marks. I'm going to try to add a picture of my sight, with the other pictures on my previous post, to confirm that on these early Quality Hardware Carbines this was the standard way to stake the sight, by the way I have never seen this type stake mark on any other make, has anyone? Although round stake marks on flip sights were obviously used with early QHMC carbines, doubtful that many early Qualities exist in their orignal configuration. Beyond those early examples, round stake marks were seldom used. Most were either small or large chisel type, or none at all. Round stake marks are usually associated with later carbines where adjustable sights were correct, or with rebuilds where round crater type stake marks were used.

However there is a difference. Where applied on original flip sight carbines, the round stake mark is applied an an angle in order to push metal toward the sight. The location of the stake marks are positioned differently also. Notice the QHMC above, where the employee dented the edges of the flip sight creating a bulge on either side.

Have only had one other carbine to come my way that is believed to have it's flip sight originally staked with a round punch, photo enclosed.
