Just an example of art imitating life. Of course, he earned his right to carry it whatever way he wished.

"Great actor." And the real deal.
As many were. I miss those guys very much and feel fortunate to have been "entertained" by guys who lived it.

(M1 Garand/M14/M1A Rifles)
That was back when a rounder could always go into the Marines or Army to escapejail. The service often squared them away. These days a record can disqualify you for enlistment.

I would love to know the SN on that M-1. Talk about jewel of a collection.

Back in the day, when my sgt major was personal friends with Dick Winters, I asked him to ask the Major if remembered his serial number of his m-1 in Holland....No Joy...that would have been my jewel in my collection....regards....alex

I love the story, true or not, about the guy whose sergeant demanded he recite the serial number of his Springfield rifle... The guy shouted "One, Sergeant!" Turned out he really was issued #1... they immediately grabbed it from him and sent it to the SA Museum

The Rolex would be worth far more than the M1
$ wise. Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona sold for $15.2 Million.
I am going to find a good Lee Marvin movie to watch.
