I almost have my wife convinced that this thing is going to morph into a zombie pestilence and therefore I need another anti-zombie gun. Anyone know where I can find a STG 44 at discount zombie-apocalypse price?

China has a strong central government that is not bound by regulation or environmental concerns. Something is ordered done and it is done, and they have unlimited human resources to accomplish the tasks. No waiting for permits, acts of congress to circumvent or environmental protests for the courts to clear. I think they could build hundreds of any type structure in very short order. Best. Tom

Having traveled to China on a few occasions over the years, the rate of economic change is absolutely breathtaking!
China's hybrid market/command economy gets things done, it's incredibly efficient, that's for sure, as they don't ask for, or need permission from the population to do anything!
From a military perspective, you only have to look at their combat aircraft, they have gone from crude copies of Russian
aircraft, to high tech domestic design and construction of some very impressive designs in 25 short years.
It's a staggering rate of change that's mirrored across their entire economy.

The good thing is that they have massive problems finding soldiers. The one-child policy has created lots of spoiled kids and they are not prone to discipline...so I hear and read in military magazines.
Let's hope it is true.

John,
They are so anal, constant spitting everywhere and serious hygiene issues anyway, not surprised its caught them out, whether its deliberate or not.
I was followed everywhere I went, and if you are not surveillance savvy you probably never noticed it, as it was very basic, including looking over the newspaper in the hotel foyer!!
They may as well have cut eye holes out of the newspaper it was that obvious, but I was looking after someone fairly important at the time, what do I expect from them!!

Spitting everywhere, yep! Disgusting habit and the Chinese do it a lot, certainly used to anyway, especially out in the sticks.
Funny you should mention surveillance, first time I went was the early 90's, I was staying in a typical Chinese concrete monstrous hotel, the sort that typically has a statue of Mao looking down at you...
I was wondering back to my room one night and as I came out of the lift, two leather jacketed Chinese guys came out of my room!
I shouted at them and gave chaise, they hussled off!
Oddly nothing was taken, when I took it up with the manager, he got really flustered and pleaded with me to let it go, I did and got used to the same two following me about the place for several days...
It must have been very boring for them!
Same thing in Vietnam, back then, when you turned up at Tan Son Nhut, you were considered CIA until proven overwise, quite funny really.
Followed around for a week and all phone calls monitored...
All good fun.

It fascinates me, how countries like China, deem threats would be made by individuals from the UK
Military/Police or Government on known "official" business.
Not wishing to start another offshoot thread here but we are afterall talking about NBC and how we believe this may all of started. We "swept" our rooms as SOP, and the results were staggering......clearly not a place to communicate with anybody except yourself. All hotels have a "tourist" floor for good reason, so they can consolidate their resources.
NO WiFi, No Internet, No secure phones whatsoever, "unless" through their conduits, so, SAT phones were the only option all of the time.
So I won't be surprised if this virus, which we will all get eventually, as its inevitable, as it is here to stay, and will circumnavigate the world for years, was started from the centre IMHO!!
