M1 Garand Action Spring

Wondering!!! Recently while watching several videos on Utube, when the video showed the guy disassembling a Garand, I noticed on the end of the action spring that goes into the action rod, it appeared to be some sort of brass button on the end. I noticed this on another video also. In both video's they didn't show a real good shot of the ends of the springs, but it appeared there was something on the ends. I tried to find both video's again with no luck. Both of my Grands just have the 'naked' end going into the action rod and both of them cover the years 1942 and 1953. I looked in all three of my Garand books (Duff and Poyer) and none say anything about any change at any time or mention anything about a 'button' of any sort. Most other pictures and video's I've seen have nothing on the end of the spring Was I just seeing things or were some of the Garand's fitted with a 'button' at one time?

No, I just was sort of surfing the Utube video's on M1 Garand and ran across one that I just started watching on disassembly/assembly. Looked at several others and ran across another one. Went back today looking for them and couldn't find the two that I saw with the 'maybe 'buttons' on them. There are a lot of video's on the Garand-some informative, some pretty amateurish and poorly done. In both of them that I viewed the 'button' (?), when they withdrew the spring it just showed a very quick shot and they layed the springs down. I played them back but couldn't get a clear view, but it 'appeared' that their was maybe a brass or brass colored button on the ends. I've never seen pictures or any written info on any such alteration of the action spring, hence my post.

No buttons were used. Possibly grease or cosmolene would be my guess.

Perhaps just worn metal that gleamed a bit, shining...no "Buttons" were ever used.

Grease/crud, maybe worn metal would be my guess too. I went back this afternoon looking for the two video's I saw it on, but Utube scrambles the various video's every time you go back on the site. There are unlimited video's. Not getting a real good shot of the ends and when I would 'pause' the video's, the still was to blurry to make out anything, that aroused my curiosity. Some of those video's are pretty good with good explanation, but some of them were crap. Some of those guys don't even know the proper name for parts (calling them a 'thingy'), don't take down or assemble in proper order-guess that is the result of technology, anyone with a modern cellphone or recording device becomes a instant Utube expert. Oh well, thanks for the responses. Didn't think there was ever any 'button' on the end, but ya never know.

Well, matter of fact...if you put anything in there that increases length you stand a good chance of having failures. Nope, no buttons.

You can use the toolbar in YouTube and go to your history. It shows you every video you have ever watched in order of watching them. You may have luck doing that to find your videos.hth

Jeremy and browningautorifle!!!! jond41403-I'll have to try that, but after reading the posts of everyone I'm confident I was seeing something that wasn't there. At the time it sure looked like there was, hence my question.
