My latest AR-15 platform.
I have been busy fussing with my Maadi AKM I got in December and realized I have not shared My current my AR-15 build. My armory is down to one AR and one AK, both featureless for Commiefornia compliance, so I can run my standard magazines in it..
This build is one I did for my son about 10 years ago on a JD Machine lower. Early last year he divested himself of guns to keep his wife happy, so he gave it back to me.
It is a PSA flat top upper with a 16" M4 barrel, Melonite, with 1/7 twist and a Wilson Combat Comp A2 style muzzle brake (solid front, so is a brake). It has early CAR-15 style slimline handguards. Has a Metal no-name flip up BUIS with A2 adjustment knob and two position rear leaf.
The lower is a JD Machine with an early style CAR-15 Fiberlite stock (pinned open for Cali), has a recent production Colt complete Lower parts kit, and a Sparrow Dynamics CA compliant grip. It weighs under 6.4 pounds without red dot.
It is topped with a Bushnell AR Optics TRS-32 red dot. I like the TRS-32 much better than then newer stuff like TRS-26 or Bushnell Enrage becuase the TRS-32 has a wider field of vision. From a rest, I can get 1.5 MOA using MK 262 MOD 1, 77 grain OTMBTs.

I am sorry that people in many geographic areas have to deal with ridiculous laws. Glad you have work arounds.

I hope you will be around to protect them. Good compromise rifle although I am sorry you have to. How does the caligripta thing work in use?
Do you place your thumb under the buffer tube?

I love the Sparrow grip so much, I don't change bother to change it out when I go shooting in Oregon. Feels kinda like an FN P90 PDW grip.

But do you wrap your thumb in conventional fashion or like a standard stocked rifle? Trying to picture it. Sure looks better than those ban era thumb hole contraptions.

yep thumb over the top. It feels like the grip of an FN P90 PDW. I don’t even bother changing when I go to Nevada or Oregon to shoot.

We had a thread discussing red dot sights a few years back and I thought I couldn't do much accuracy at 200m with one. I since have taken both the M4gery and my 16" "Rifle" out and done some work. The M4gery has a real Aimpoint Pro and the other a copy from Bushnell. With both I just turn the dot down to the smallest I can use and can repeat pretty easily hits at 200 on the 4" AR500 gongs. I've started shooting off bags because my stability and eyesight aren't what they used to be. I wonder if I added a doubler or tripler to the line of sight would it help see the smaller gongs... I load my own 55 gr M193 recipy and it functions perfectly and gives reasonable accuracy.
So, I found the main error was my increasing age... I can do the smaller gongs too but not as repeatable as the 4".

That turned out pretty nice! I've been using the Cross Armory maglock on my personal ARs and those I've been asked to build for my friends. I prefer to have the gun in its original form so that when these crazy laws are overruled on the Supreme Court, I can switch back to the original magazine release in about 5 minutes and I'm only out $60.

You owe it to yourself to try the Sparrow grip. NOTHING like Monsterman, kydex paddle, or Hammerhead. It literally handles like a standard pistol grip because thumb goes over the top. I actually love the feel of it. I get to use standard mag release and 30 rounders.
