BurtonP, I haven't had a chance to try them out yet. The top rifle is a 1945 with a 2 groove barrel and the bottom is a 1943 with a 4 groove. I've been collecting up some ammo for awhile. I joined the forestock on the upper rifle 3 inches behind the rear band. The lower one was joined right at the rear band. I make a large male dovetail on the new piece and a female dovetail on the old piece. How do you do yours? ---It's tough getting the colors to match.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Hi Salt Flat, mine was a stock that I bought and then found had been spliced badly at the barrel band. I put in a metal rod which joined the pieces. Then a good quality epoxy for wood, followed by an alcohol-based stain to blend it all in. I think with that one I also sanded a bit with wet and dry fine sandpaper and linseed oilicon to make a paste which helps fill in the grain and blend any colour differences. I was concerned with getting the correct up pressure on the barrel at the tip, and I think I just about managed it.
    Cheers,
    Burton

Here's a shot of the rifle and a scaled down "Cabin Fever Challenge" (Rifle Chair Chanel, You Tube) for use at 20m, which is the extent of my garden. If it's worked there's also a shot "down range".
