Too, you can't go across the ocean driving a horse cart. Even though lots of these guys were raised driving teams, you had to have the mobility of mechanized or motorized or just don't go. The Germans were almost at home, or took stock from countries they occupied. Then when rations ran short...they at least had meat.

There was a documentary on several months ago about war factories in which it was suggested that when the Peugeot factory, under Nazi occupation, was ordered to start making vehicles for the Germans, the French
set up the production line in the most inefficient way that was possible.

I can see that happening, but I wouldn't want to be responsible once they figured it out. They weren't dummies and for sure you'd die for your country once they lay'd blame. Remember the Germans were always the best toy makers.

Horses are still reserve use- I have a Yugoslavian horse gas mask from the 1980s.
