Nice piece. I thought someone with more info would have come onboard. Does that serial number show up in other places ? That colt was made in 1883 and the serial number on it should be on the underside of the frame just in front of the trigger guard. It should also be on the front portion of the trigger guard along with the butt. There should be numbers on the outside of the cylinder and on the rear face, edge, of that cylinder.
There are two colts with serial numbers close to 94561 that were issued to the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry, Troop I, commanded by Colonel Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt's cavalry regiment was better known as The Rough Riders. One colt, serial #94324, was issued to 1st Sgt J.B. Wylie and the other, serial #94618, was issued to Pvt S.R. Miller. Not saying 94561 was with that unit but the possibility does exist.
Very interesting piece

the colt different serial numbers on the cylinder trigger guard which is common because all of the colts were sent back to colt for rebuild and the barrels shortened to 5 1/2 inchers in the 1890s this one was inspected buy DFC
