1st year production 03
I visited the old home town of Pittsburgh for my father's memorial service this weekend. He passed away in January. CPL E.G. Vogeley USAAF, rest in peace.
While there I visited the The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial hall in Oakland (Pittsburgh) Pa which along with other arms has an 03 on display with a serial number of, if memory serves, 954. I'm assuming this is the first year of serial production? It is in a glass case so getting a picture was a challenge. My daughter took several photos, when she gets time she will make them available to me and i will post them. It is in the post rod bayonet configuration and the handguard looks like a WW2 replacement. I also was able to locate the regimental plaque at Soldiers and Sailors that listed my great uncles' Civil War regiment and it showed him: 75th PA volunteer infantry; CPL Thomas Vogeley. Fought at Gettysburg and died in 1898 at age 56.

SA 954 was made the week of 19 Dec 1903, approximately on 15 Dec 1903 in the 6th week of production of Rod Bayonet rifles.

It appears that #924 has a number of the parts from a conversion to 1905 standards or to 30-06. The handguard appears to be a WWII replacement, though.

You didn't happen to get the serial number of that Warner Sawsey rifle did you? Does the scope match the rifle?
