HIDDEN GEM
Found a hidden Gem on ebay. Looked very ordinary at first glance then took a closer look and decided to take a $19 chance on an unmarked stock. This will make a very nice addition to the collection.

It had some kind of shellac and stain but it will shine. This one is really going to come alive. The only marks are rack numbers stamped in the butt. Just need the metal and a hand guard set. Now my M1
Garand can match my M1 Carbine that matches my semi-m14. All have Sunday dresses now. Need to talk to Ironwood designs in San Jose to make a birch set for my AR.

Just a 4 digit rack number stamped at the butt. No proof stamps or inspection marks. She will be an outstanding piece when done. I could barely see the stripes through the crud online. But she turned out to be special.

Gorgeous. The stripping is sexy as heck. Nice work!
I have a lot more experience than expertise, still have both eyes and most of my fingers though.

This stock was a gift from 1st Sgt, all brown color color until I cleaned it up. I used
BLO on the woodAttachment 109803
Later on I found the M14 birch, nice stock but not as
good as the M1 stck

Those are outstanding RCS. I would love to find a nice Fiddle back Walnut like the top one, that is gorgeous. I look for the cheap import return stocks with no real american history or stamps and then make them highest quality i can. My Semi M14 got 22 coats of hand rubbed Tung oil wet polishing it out to 1500 grit the rest got BLO.

some deluxe walnut
I have two early Winchester M1 rifle stocks that really show some fancy walnut. It was said that when Winchester got the rifle contract they also used up the wood from their custom shop to complete the order. These stocks have the solid butt plate so they are early.
