I thought I would give everyone an update on the gun business in NJ. We are starting to get in drips and drabs of Glocks, interesting yesterday we received 3 Glock 45 MOS and a Glock 17 Gen 5. No Sig Sauers. No new S&Ws. We did receive about 8 new in the box S&W Model 5906 9mm pistols which have not been made for some time. It looks like some folks are digging deep in their warehouses to find stuff that has not seen the light of day to sell. We had a Rock Island FDE VR80 12 gauge come in and it lasted one day. No other tactical shotguns all. I have had several folks bring in old pump shotguns to cut the barrels down to 20" inches to make into a defensive shotgun. We are experiencing the shortage of coinage as well. I hope someone is not melting the coins down for the base metals as US coinage has not been made of copper, nickel or silver since the early 1960's. In the past week there has been a run on ammunition specifically 9x19mm, 9mm Luger or 9mm Parabellum depending on the country that you reside. We had 30 1,000 round cases at the end of last week they are gone as of today. Hope to get a supply on Monday. We will see. Still no problem with .223 Remington/5.56mm, .38 Special, or .40 S&W. Still getting a lot of folks from the inner cities who are looking for guns and firearms training. The equation of firearms ownership is starting to change where traditionally most gun owners were conservative how with the call for defunding of the police and the resulting uptick in inner city gang violence innocent folks caught in the cross fire are starting to arm themselves. Politicians are still blaming the guns as the problem, but folks are seeing the problem are the gangs and lack of proper law enforcement which permits these gangs to operate. That's it for this week. Friends stay safe and healthy. PS-- Painter, I still in love!!
The shortage of coinage is probably people hoarding and rolling, coin rolls still represent cash in hand. Part of the preparedness panic...?
Regards, Jim
I don't think it's hoarding so much as the bank lobby's being closed. We basically went three months without being able to walk into a bank. So the change just built up. Most people don't really use it much. They get it, take it home and throw it in a glass or jar or something and when they get enough, they take it to the bank.
We are stating to learn how finely balanced everything is in our society. Coin shortages because of a disrupted flow. Can shortages because of a forced change of drinking style. It's only going to get worse as more businesses are forced out of business pushing their consumers onto something else.
Like i mentioned a couple weeks ago. You can walk into these big box stores and see plenty of goods but say one in ten items is just missing, bare spot on the shelf. Someones not manufacturing it, or they aren't shipping it or the materials they need to make it aren't available.
Our governor has decided to jump off the deep end again and restrict restaurants and shut down bars. 25% capacity for restaurants. They can't survive at that level. Bars are closed unless they have a menu and no drinks can be served without a meal. It's just stupid. The state had 16 deaths due to Covid yesterday but because there were thousands of new cases due to a tenfold increase in testing, he shut everything down. The only numbers that really matter are hospitalizations and deaths, both of which have been in decline for well over a month now and 16 is just a small portion of the 135 that typically die on a normal day in the state. And what makes things worse is that the new case spikes are occurring in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Not surprising as these are the two most populous areas in the state and going to have the most testing sites.
Testing has gone up something like 10 times what it was at the peak of the deaths. Cases have gone up maybe 3 times what they were at the peak. The rate of positive cases is down. Deaths way down, hospitalizations going down but all you see is hospitals being overwhelmed. Only 30% are covid cases. They don't tell you that.
It's gone from flattening the curve to stopping all deaths and there is a certain impossibility to that.
People are now getting deeply depressed. My wife is really showing signs of this now as they are cancelling things that are 6 months away. It's one new thing on top of another and there really is no reason for it. Every fair in the state is cancelled. The big holiday parades are cancelled with the exception of Macy's Thanksgiving Parade but I expect that is doomed as well. Philadelphia closed every public event until January. Sports can be played to empty arenas.
I'm afraid it has simply become a political football in the November election here. Democrats seem to think it is to their advantage to continue these shutdowns and restrictions as they believe it will hurt Trump. Meanwhile, Trumps numbers continue to recover from the false numbers they were spreading all along. Biden had this massive lead, 20 points or so two weeks ago and suddenly, he doesn't. It's be "halved" and blacks are abandoning him. The truth is he never had a lead, he doesn't have one now and the blacks have never supported him. Trump currently has the support of 18% of black voters. That doesn't sound like much but if the Democrat candidate doesn't have 85% support from blacks, they can't win the election. That's how screwy it is here.
Good friend of my Wife is a Nurse at our biggest local hospital. They've had a big increase in hospitalizations in the last 3-4 weeks or so. She said most were patients with existing conditions that required near constant Monitoring and Evaluation but weren't treated during our long lock down time.
She was more detailed than I list, but you get the idea.

My mother has been very depressed, and eventually got put on antidepressant tablets for it. She feels better now, though, perhaps due to things opening up again, and the knowledge that we haven't got it yet, and we don't know anyone else who has got it. She says (several times) "I didn't go through the war, and fourteen years of rationing, and expect to have to do it all over again at the ***-end of my life."

Wife's DR said since he's back to having in office visits that he has 4x the patients seeking meds for anxiety and depression. Covering a wide age group of both men and women.
Including some teenagers.
The Feds have stepped in and will not allow called in prescriptions even for long time patients. Even Xanax @ .5 milligram 1 dose per day.
So they have to have 30 day appointments.
Said these patients are now more likely to come across a Covid situation between Dr office and trips to Pharmacy. And added that some were dealing with more anxiety now because of the worry of having to go in every 30 days. Leading to the need to increase the dose.
He's part of a group trying to get the Feds to better word their guidelines and allow refills on these lower dose scrips.
Try the Wine or a double of Jim Bean on the rocks. No worries and more time on your hands.
@ Mk VII,
I wish your Mother the best

Those who need something other than recreational drugs to help with their moods can maybe go and harvest some of their own. Assuming that is that they wouldn't need a stimulant to give them the motivation to do so.
In 2016, an in-depth review of 35 studies examined these effects.
It found that St. John's wort (4Trusted Source):
Reduced symptoms of mild and moderate depression more than a placebo
Reduced symptoms to a similar extent as prescription antidepressants
Appeared to have fewer side effects than prescription antidepressants
Doesn't seem to reduce sex drive, a common side effect of antidepressants
However, there was a lack of research on its effects on severe depression.
Another recent analysis looked at 27 studies comparing the effects of St. John's wort and antidepressant medication. It showed that St. John's wort had effects similar to those of antidepressants on mild to moderate depression.
It also found fewer people stopped taking St. John's wort during the studies, compared to antidepressants. This could be due to its fewer side effects (5Trusted Source).
Furthermore, in one controlled study, 251 people who took 900–1,800 mg of St. John's wort for six weeks experienced a 56.6% decrease in their depression score, compared to a 44.8% decrease in those on antidepressants (6Trusted Source).
Lastly, another controlled study in 241 people taking either St. John's wort or an antidepressant found that 68.6% of people experienced a reduction in symptoms with St. John's wort, compared to 70.4% of those on an antidepressant (7Trusted Source).
