Mind you, you could buy a 3 bed semi-detached for about £10k.....and good old 5 Star leaded fuel was about 50p per gallon.

Those were the days, you could drive to the gun shop, buy a No4T and a Fal, stop at the pub on the way home and still have change for fish and chips on the way back for £260.....

I wonder what contract the Fals were?

During that same period that were also a lot of anti gun politics emerging; the HBSA had been formed the year before (1973) to counter act a green paper on gun ownership and the NRA Council at Bisley were doing their damnedest to stop the use of civilians shooting semi auto rifles in competition at Bisley.

The late Pete Bloom who gave LERA a lot of help to form once told me it wasn't unheard of for ex soldiers having bought their own SLR from Parker-Hale to don military combat kit and enter the service rifle competitions under the name of their old unit, particularly easy if that unit was serving abroad!

Decent .303 ammo was hard to obtain in those days, and most of it would have been corrosive ...

I was four years old when that Guns Review was published, it was ten years later that I was buying it every month, an outstanding read, I was always absorbed into the first few pages especially Pat Walker Guns...........

I've a few Military Vehicle magazines from around 12 years ago, even comparing prices from then to now there is a hell of a percentage hike, I'm trying to convince the other half that my redundancy payment will be best spent on a Chieftain or Centurion recovery vehicle...... she's not convinced.

In 1974 a reasonable wage was £20 per week. I was earning that as a department manager at Debenhams. You can now multiply that by 23 times.
