Need help with identifying this rifle!
Hey all, need some help with figuring out a rifle my father just got from my great uncle. Neither are really sure what it is! From what I could find its some type of Mauser maybe? Unfortunately I'm not that knowledgeable on the military style rifles! Heres the info I have from my father (we live 5 hours away so hes been describing it over the phone): Only marks on it are it says "Jules...something...Anvers" on the stock, there's a small lion on the barrel just forward of the bolt, under that are the letters "P.V" under that is the letter "W",and under that is a small downward pointing arrow. On the end of the bolt (facing the shooter) is the number 90, on the side of the rear sight (very small) "7,92". Any help would be very much appreciated! Not a Mauser for sure . Looks more like some type of Mannlicher Carcano to me . Know next to nothing about these , however .

It isn't a Mauser per se. It is a Kar88.

Trigger guard and fixed magazine are not Carcano... Some detailed pictures could help. The bolt is not clear enough...

Model 1888 carbine
The original caliber is 7,92x57 with the smaller .318 dia bullet, if converted to use the later 7,92 cartridge (.323 dia) it should be marked S on the weapon, also it might have a charger guide on the rear and a notched receiver ring.

The proof mark sounds Belgian. These Kar88's are quite rare in good, unmessed-with condition.
