FWIW, the Thompson had a pronounced muzzle rise on full auto, so the Chicago hoods turned it on it's side so it walked across the target instead of up 
Real men measure once and cut.

Can you imagine how heavy a gun with 100 rounds in the drum would be to carry?
Less than a BAR with 20 rounds! I'd rather the BAR though...

My dad said they used to turn the fore pistol grip around. He said it made much more controllable.
