The way I see it then, this restoration is replacing the wood, the barrel, and the receiver isn't original configuration...so what would you have when it's finished? Anything original? Any value to another collector or just sentimental?

Well i'm briefly resurrecting this treads because 2 years ago i stumbled on this rifle for sale and i bought it with the intent of restoring it.
The project has been slow due to Covid but it is now advance enough for me to be convinced it will get done.
Still much to do but it is VERY promising.
I know opinions vary a lot on this rifle but to me it is totally a worthy challenge.
Next update will be in a new tread.

I've seen some of your work, tatou, so I think that the project is in good hands. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.
Some do, some don't; some will, some won't; I might ...

Thank you.
It wont be perfect, it can never be... it will never be original, i am not kidding myself. It will always be a restored rifle... but it's gonna be the next best thing
I'll do my best to make this one, one of the best restoration i've done so far.
I already have a bunch of pictures of what has been done so far but i'm waiting on a confirmation before posting anything.
With luck, later this week.

Did you check the calibre??
It looks much like the rifle I looked at about 15 to 20 years ago but it had been re barrelled in 7.62....
If you have the serial number and want to PM it to me, as I have an original .276 barrel..
NOT the one off that rifle but it was close.

Sorry for the late reply... had not looked at this tread in a while.
Quite frankly no i never checked the caliber...
I might have tried a dummy round in it but it's been so long i don't really remember...
Since the start i had no plan to keep that barrel on the rifle so it never came to mind.
The restoration updates are on the ''Pattern 1913/1914 and M1917 Rifles'' section of the forum, if you want to have a look.
