Most likely done by Bubba. Quite possibly a re-enactor who doesn't care about the thing's value. Carbine barrels were never threaded for anything.
Doesn't look like it was done on a lathe by somebody who knows how. Threads are square and about 6 TPI.
Wide and flat at bottom...not a gun thread I think. Not likely a die cut thread either I would bet? A bit on those... Trapezoidal thread form - Wikipedia
I think the threaded carbine barrel is made for a small blank adopter which would look good in film or movies - and still work the action.
My picture shows two types of BAR Model 1918A2 and 1918Attachment 112099Attachment 112098 blank adopters and when attached to the weapon, they don't stand out as blank adopters and are good to use in movies
I think it was for a suppressor. Looks like the thread patterns I have seen on Cobray/Sionics suppressor threaded barrels in the 70s/80s. Could have been a Spec Ops carbine. I remember years ago seeing a picture of an operator with a suppressed M1 Carbine in Central America. The threads in those days were coarse and deep.

I agree that it isn't the best candidate. Cans work best with sub-sonic rounds. We had IMI 157 grain subsonic 9mm for our suppressed UZIs and MP5s. 300 Black Out ARs with 16" barrels are best with supersonic 115s and 125s. The 10.5 inch with a can need the 220 subsonics.
