Springfield Model 1903 rod bayonet
A few years ago, i found an almost "new condition" rod bayonet for the early Model 1903 rifle that was chambered for the 30-03 cartridge. These rod bayonets were issued before with the later Springfield trap door rifles but when the Krag was adopted the knife bayonet was also adopted. For some reason (maybe cost) the US decided to go back to the rod bayonet until President Teddy Roosevelt saw it. He told them to adopt a knife bayonet which became the Model 1905Attachment 112214

You never told us, although we've seen this one before...where did you find it? Was it just lying among the clearing rods somewhere? Guy didn't know?
Nice 1905 too...

I got one on ebay a couple years ago pretty cheap. Don't remember exactly how much but I considered it a bargain at the time.

I had thoughts about doing a rod bayonet restoration as I was picking up parts at the time: found a nice repro handguard, front sight with the holes, rear sight leaf and stocks
were around that had been modified but still had the rod bayonet hole drilled inside. Just got caught up with other projects
