Marksman, the butt plate isn't steel, it is an alloy called zamak
. Lack of brass to make butt plates.

I have 26L4016. 1943 all matching serial numbers. 5 groove barrel. Small repair on butt stock but otherwise in very good order. I don't suppose anyone would have a correct sling for it?

Just picked up a 1950 No4 Mk1* with serial number 94L7747. I know nothing about the rifle as I picked it up yesterday afternoon except that it has a steel butplate, click slide rear sight and has matching bolt. Had a quick look over it and there are still traces of packing grease on the rifle. I'll probably be reaching out for some info on it.

Post lockdown collection
Just collected 1L937 from my dealer, post Lockdown.
1941 receiver, 1942 two groove barrel, LB marked short Butt.
Any know what the markings are on the R/H side of the receiver, by the rear sight?
I think she's lovely!

I don't know for sure what those markings are Roy, but I wonder if they may be Italian
proof marks?

I agree with the good Doctor - appear to be Italian
