The standard USGI magazines are the top of heap

I made a point of using 15 rounders, USGI. No problems even with old ones.

The magazines of this weapon are a wear item. I believe that this is why they were ordered by the millions.

I got the idea somewhere that they were meant to be used once and discarded. Maybe it was the talk about them coming forward loaded from manufacture with caps on, used and dropped. Don't remember where I saw that.

if you reload this is important and the bullet must be seated at the proper depth.

Yes, trim and chamfer, all must be done. Then seating has to be checked. I never had trouble because of that. Others I know did.

Earlier today while searching for the picture above I ran across a post about how many extra mags had to be supplied/made per carbine.

You'd probably have to do the math after sorting through contract numbers. I can just imaging that if a mag dropped on hard surface and there was foot traffic stomping around the offending mag would soon be garbage. Used once and flattened. Guys wouldn't chance a mag failure during critical times when you can demand new mags.

Another thing that will significantly affect function is if you are not using the special mag catch for the 30-rd mag.

I've watched guys bench shooting with their 15 and / or 30rd mag bottoms setting / resting on the bench. You can see the mags pivoting forward and backward as they're shooting. Mentioned this to one who was having feed issues.. he didn't want my opinion. Another listened and adjusted his rest so his magazine didn't contact the bench top and all other feeds went ok.
Sometimes it takes another set of eyes, you may not realize your doing it. Of course it may not cure the issue.
Worth trying to remember though. I realized I was doing it once, I think because I'd hung my targets so low. As I shot, the base plate had come loose and was walking backward off the tube. I don't think I'd of caught it until I was ready to re-pack that mag and seen the floor plate had walked nearly 1/2 way off the back of the tube.

Never to old to listen to a opinion. I've had fresh hires on their 2nd or 3rd day on the job with no real experience mention.... " have you every thought of XX" We'd look at each other, picture how is idea would layout and Damn if it wasn't something we'd never set up and his idea worked better than how we'd done it for years. Usually something with set up or rigging. I always figured no matter if you've done something the same general way for 30 years doesn't mean someone with less experience couldn't have a better idea for that particular move. Then again I've heard some crazy Sh!t from some. Always worth listening is my point.

"That is one I have been looking for since the early 1990's. I was at a gun show and Sile Inc., was set up. I was friends with the sales guy so he let me go through about 100 30 round magazines. They had come in from Korea, along with lots of carbines.
I saw one of those and put it aside to purchase it for my reference library. It got misplaced and somebody else purchased it.
I am sure it was produced in South Korea. If I recall I have an adjustable rear sight with the same markings."

Charlie, Compared to the ones I use this one looks Pretty Nice. It sure looks like they knew how to build a 30 Round Magazine compared to the 3 I posted. You can almost tell when these will start to come apart just by looking at it.

While looking for something else I ran across these 30rders, Described as Danish GI. Good Condition: Magazines will show rust and/or pitting on various parts of each magazine. Minor dings and/or dents.

Original bolt-open follower.
