ERA P14 Stock Question

I recently purchased a P14 from an online source, looked great in the pics, but.....

First thing I noticed was that the rear action screw had been cut, I have to assume this was NOT standard armory procedure, so someone has been messing with this gun.

I noticed that the bolt would get hung up on the top of screw, but it still could be removed. The screw was not tightened so I figured I would tighten it up, now the bolt would not even come out. I ended up taking the action out of the stock and noticed that the rear screw does have a metal post in the screw hole, but the front does not. Were these stocked setup with steel post for the front and rear screws? I am thinking if one has it the other should. I have included pictures, could anyone confirm the proper stock setup for me?

I also found a crack in the upper handguard (closest to the muzzle) that some had tried to glue but it has separated. There was quite a bit of glue that had dried on the underside of the handguard, I was able to remove this residue with mineral spirits. I was thinking of giving a shot at attempting a glue job myself, any suggestion on how to clamp the wood?

That very well could be it, but they already cut it. Does anyone have measurements of the standard lengths? This stock is the MK II replacement stock so I figured there might be a difference in length. I will do some searching to see if I can find anything.

I will say that I had another short screw that came with a trigger housing and it was 1/4 longer and would bottom out before it would tighten the housing. I don't really know if the screw lenghts differed by the manufacturer but I order another set ff of Ebay and it came with the shorter screw. It may be possible that it could happen with the longer screw too, not sure. I do have two of the longer screws and both measure the same. Mike

Wood shrinks with age and when taken apart the collar would fall out without notice in some cases. The action screws are vastly different lengths, here illustrated by Liberty Tree's ad. M1917 screws...are the same. https://www.libertytreecollectors.co...idcategory=108

The rear action screw will protrude as you show after the wood shrinks with age and then is over tightened...like yours.

Clamping that wood can sometimes be accomplished with surgical rubber tubing, available in many drug stores or medical supply shops. If you have a circular piece you simply tie it around tightly.

Thank you so much for taking those pics, my front screw appears to be the same length and my rear screw is a little longer. I have placed an order for the front screw post and a couple of rear screws. The pics are great. Thanks again.

I ordered some parts, front and back post as well as front and back action screws. Attached in an image of the new and old rear parts, the one on the left is the new parts the one on the right is one that was already in the gun.

I tried installing the rear parts but the top of the action was almost a 1/4 inch above the top of the stock. I was able to install the front post but noticed that it caused the rear of the action to lift. Took it shooting today, it did not shoot very well, I had one good group out of 8. Will remove front post (putting it back to the way it was purchased) and she what kind of groups I get.

As a thought, did you try installing without the magazine and see if it fits better. That said, it looks the rear sleeve and bolt look longer than the old.
