If the washer is leather, then it is not a fake. Needs a good cleaning but looks more then original and with so many available I don't think too many are going to fake them.

Thank You Bruce...I've only seen Oilers with Longer thin letters and this type. I appreciate your input.

Quoting Bill Ricca: From this link - Reply #4: Oilers - CMP Forums
"All WWII and 1957 manufactured oilers were marked. Oilers produced in 1972 were unmarked.
The 1957 and 1972 had rubber seals. No US GI oilers had O rings. O rings are fakes. WWII had leather, but many were changed for the better rubber seals." * End.
The Late JimF4M1's and I split a box of re-packed IR oilers that had been Parked and had Rubber gaskets in them. Not O rings, just flat rubber type washers. I still have 4 or 5. IIRC the re-pack stamp was about 62.
Charlie E pulled this From War Baby: The composition of the washer in the cap was officially changed from leather to synthetic rubber compound via Dpt of Army TB ORD 414 dated October 17 1951. * End.

I think that the only oiler that may have some value is the 'One You Want' and the SW on the lid ones. My Winchester carbine which is almost certainly an original piece came with one of the SW oilers. I was kind of shocked when I first saw it because at the time it was not certain to be a Winchester item. It was said to be a Stanley Works oiler used by Winchester.

Advisory Panel
"I received a email from this guy who was telling me that the Oiler in that group was fake. For what I paid it wasn't bad at all, but he said that he collects NPM's and buys donor parts until he finds Original ones and asked me if I wanted to recover some money that he would gladly purchase the Oiler and a couple of the other parts."
So if it was fake, why was he so keen to buy it?

Oddly reminds me when we were kids I'd tell my younger brother his Nickels and Pennies were larger and worth more than Dimes as we'd split the change from our piggy bank. That didn't last to long after he learned

$70 Buy Now Fake IN Oiler
Franks Real IN Oiler here to compare the stamp:
Wayne mentioned this seller above.
Here's one from Ebay, A Fake/Repro IN stamp. It appears the Knurl on the top looks like the Post WWII Yankee Hill Oilers of which some were made for US contracts IIRC, But the Tube looks thinner, I can't see enough to be sure.
When you open my attachment you can pull it up next to Franks to compare the stamp. Someday I'll learn how to do the side x side pics:

Here's the Auctions Knurl pattern on the cap:
Here is a good 2 page read about Oilers and includes when IS stopped the special II, IW, IR .. etc stampings and when they started just using IS. Also includes Blue Print views:

I hope some find this useful,

Patrick, Your reply is exactly why I posted this. It just seemed to me he probably missed out and then emailed me to see if I would go for it.
I don't know if I missed it, but you can clearly see the size difference in the Letters...Hmm !!!
