I can as the holder of what is left of the Holy Grail which is Parker Hales recorded/tests history, I can confirm P, R & indeed S feature as pre stamps for the M82 Rifle.

If you show the complete number I can check to see if they feature on the M82 lists that remain and any history. However, There is only only entry close to either of your start numbers ie S33949.

Hi Gil, certainly a valuable document you have there...The full serial numbers I have here are...
    P40942 & S33239.
Any information or history you have on those including year of manufacture would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jae,
As stated above I did a search on the first three numbers of each and the closes to yours was S33949.
Clearly those records were burnt or destroyed like a lot of valuable history no P409's at all.

    Hi

I have an M82 with a 7.62 Nato barrel, proofed to 20 tons. The serial Number is R (underscored) 18606. The stock spacers still remain, it has a steell floorplate and trigger guard. It is fitted with PH Target sights. Can anything be deduced from the serial number?

    Thanks

    John
