Charlie, Thanks for taking the time to type all that out. I see only very minor changes from my 6th edition. The thing I had missed in the 6th, was that those D tips were only used with the tan colored webbing and not the OD.
Also, the 6th doesn't list the "JQMD 1944" marking for the Marine slings. That probably explains why we're now seeing repro's with that marking. My understanding of what I'm reading there, is that it doesn't have to be the shorter 37" sling marked USMC to be legit. The longer ones were used by the Marines, but just don't have the USMC marking.
I had one of the last brand new Riesch 7th editions (sealed in cellophane) that I bought at a show in May 2018 for $20. Later they were asking several hundred for them on-line, even for the earlier ones. I sold it (unopened) in August of 2019 for $25 to a guy that I thought really needed it.
I may order an 8th edition from Ruth's (and your) buddy on eBay! Thanks again for all the research that you do for us. - BobInformation
