1917 Parade conversion
i have a chance to pick up a chromed parade eddyston cheap. Overall its in pretty good shape, althou the chrome is starting to come off in allot of places. Has anyone ever tried to remove the chrome and rust blue it back to normal configuration?

I stripped an either chrome or nickle plated Krag one time. When the exterior came off it was copper washed underneath.
I glass beaded the copper wash and then phosphor blackened the metal no problem.
If I would have taken the time to completely hand polish the reciever like one would have normally done it would have come out exceptionally well.
Because of all the different acid striking and pickling done to either chrome or nickle before plating actually occurs I'm hesitant to say what type of finish either or is.
This example, I suspected nickle for how easily it stripped off to the copper underneath even though it was somewhat mirror finish before I started into it.

Removing the finish removed some of the rifle's history with the VFW.

i get that, but the finish is in bad condition. and id rather have a good looking original, then a rifle that looks like a broken toy
