Remington M1917 Bolt latch hard to open
The bolt latch on my M1917 is very difficult to open to remove the bolt. I have to use a padded screwdriver to pry it open in order to remove the bolt. The bolt stop and ejector work fine. I put in a new flat spring and rest but this did not help. Any suggestions?

Is it rubbing on the stock?
Some do, some don't; some will, some won't; I might ...

Is the screw pin bent. I have replaced alot of them due to being slightly bent.

is it frozen with dried 1910's+ grease? That stuff can act like glue when it is mixed with dust and ages for 100 years.

Thanks for all the advice. I will check each one out. I know it's not a grease problem as I have degreased and oiled it. Don't think the screw pin is bent but will check that out. I bet it is rubbing against the stock. Thanks again.

Look for pressure making it drag against the stock on bottom edge.

They have always been much more difficult than a 98 Muaser.

Agreed. I have needed to use a tool on a couple to get the bolt release lever to move.
