In my opinion, this 25th series Kokura Arsenal Arisakaicon Type 38, was a really great firearm in WWII, reason is that they were made before WWII, made only by the Japanese government under strict quality control in a nutshell the quality was excellent, soldiers were more likely to keep the type 38 over the type 99.

The book Japanese Rifles of WWII HS quite a bit of information that helps restoring these rifles, I just wish that the other discontinued "type 38 book" was available, it was specific dealing with this firearm.

Getting the receiver, barrel, bolt cleaned up, serviced. The headspace was not good, the barrel was in excellent condition.

I'm not changing the finish, I am cleaning up the parts, removing the light rust, bringing back the finish.

    Attachment 118845

Some parts were missing, some screws were buggered up, some were stuck.

    Attachment 118846

Most importantly the receiver wasn't buggered up.

    Bolt was missing parts.

I have a book (Japanese rifles of WWII)) on the rifles and it helps me out also.
The 38 Arisakaicon model I have, was made somewhere about 1935-1940ish I'm guessing. 25th series Kokura Arsenal Arisaka Type 38, serial number 00451.

I found another place for help, Gunboards" between them and "Milsurps" I have made a lot of progress. I have gotten a part that I was desperate for, A lot of help from type 38 gun owners. I still have more work that needs to be finished, however it has been a real history lesson on the Arisakaicon.

Finished up on the Arisakaicon type 38 Japanese rifle with bayonet from 1935 era. Totally, a better firearm than the type 99, and a lot of other rifles. I put some rounds down range and it AWESOME for a 80ish year old rifle, I set the headspace exact for a safe, realible rifle. Hopefully I was able to enlighten you on my project. I believe that this is "more qualified" as a type 38 since everything is hand fitted, checked and re checked for safety, authenticity, everything is correct, nothing is fake, nothing is a mis mash of parts thrown together, every screw, bolt, is perfect, the heads are perfect, I am able to take it out and shoot it with confidence that it's better than a new rifle, it's going to be a really great addition to my armory.
