Parker Hale Cadet General Purpose CGP Rifle
There I was searching the remaining Parker Hale paper records for someone the other day and came across this little rare beasty.
Only seven were made and were originally intended to be a sniper rifle and predated the M85 by a few months, but the exact date is unknown, even from those who worked on them.
It is known that they are out there somewhere. Be good to hear from anybody that has one. They were all made in 5.56mm and had the solid Jungle McMillan one piece bodywork.
Serial numbers start: CGP0002-0008

Holts sold 0005 last year. It had an M85 type McMillan stock on it.

Until recently Norman Clark Gunsmiths had one for sale. It was missing a rear sight and was only £350
I toyed with buying it numerous times but couldn't justify using the 223 slot I had. Then, when I decided that it was probably worth having for rarity value, it had sold. The photo is still on his site, on the Centrefire Rifles tab.

Roy,
Thats a shame mate, only 8 ever made, two I know are in Australia. Sold privately by Roger Hale when they lost "everything" sad sad times to see such a great British Gunsmithy go south!!!

Roy,
Thanks for that, couldn't put my hands on it for the article but found the original MOD piece as shown. Interesting times...................still hold that PH had it in the bag and should have won the contract............there was more to this than the way it played out, in my book, and a lot of people on here know what I mean.............sad times indeed!!

Here's the full Army Bulletin Board 1985 document on the rifle selection and the process and mindset used to decide:
