Well my information was that the CIE stands for Companie. I.e. they were given to the Frenchicon in WW2 and later passed on by the French to the North African colonies. No-one now seems to know what the SAU stands for.

Anyway, I saw several and tried a couple in my (now abandoned) search for an affordable P14. They were ALL rubbish shooters, totally clapped out after being passed through several sets of uncaring hands. I gave up and bought an excellent M1917 instead!
