If the rifle is a BSA Shirley dated 1944 & it has no letter prefix, just a five digit number starting with a '3', it will be from the first production run of 1944, so from the beginning of the year. The second run had an 'A' prefix, the third run a 'B' & so on. Unfortunately it is not possible to date them more precisely than this, but as I mentioned earlier, by the end of the year 1944, they were on to P & R prefix rifle serials, so one can get a rough idea.Information
