Remember that the project to revive '03 production started as a project to supply Britainicon's requirements, and they got as far as making up 'several' .303 Springfields just to test the concept. Eventually Britain accepted some .30 ones, and then focussed on Savage making L-E No.4's for them instead.

U.S. Ordnance did not like US production facilities being tied up making weapons which the US armed forces had no intention of using, although some foreign types, like the 57mm a/t gun and the 20mm Oerlikon cannon, were adopted or at least modified for US use. They would rather Lend-Lease users just accepted standard US stuff.
