Close bubba...but not quite right yet!
Oh, I feel.......used......
I am sure this has happed to others but here is a first for me. We, collectors, post pictures of our rifles for others to enjoy and learn. Some people take advantage and try to con others.
While I was "window shopping" eGUN there is a "No.9" (not a correct N.9 but a No.9) up for auction, taking a look at it I notice that the font and the designation are wrong but something appears.......familiar.....
Attached is a picture of my rifle and the one on eGUN. Caveat emptor!

I wouldnt call that a Bubba job that is straight out fraud. Scrubbed wrist as well as a milled out side wall.

And I think I recognize the handwriting..............! It looks like one of the rifles Manton Arms produced about 20 - 25 years ago, unless I am very much mistaken. They traded a lot with one of the leading German
dealers. As far as I remember they were sold by them (Mantons) openly as pretty close reproductions. Unfortunately they chose to use the same serial number range resulting in what has happened here - one of their creations 'clashing' with a surviving original.

The scrubbed wrist and milled out side wall is on the picture labeled as the original I believe.

That's just wrong. I've heard of this company before. I thought in print, even. They should have done what Springfield Armory did with their new M-1's, using a 7 million serial number.

Well they did not do the type set (Mk) designation as how it should be like on Lance's No-9 but given the way things are people buy without checks and balances.
I for one would be getting onto them to remove it from as it has the same serial No. as the original some people just don't have a conscience.

Thank You to CINDERS For This Useful Post:

That would be a dead end unfortunately Cinders as they ceased trading in about 2005. I must admit I owe them one debt of gratitude - I met my late & very talented machinist Graham Smith whilst he was working for them, & he then agreed to work for me too. In fact, assuming the rifle in question is a Mantons No9/N9 Graham would have done that engraving. He had two lovely pantograph engravers & had adapted one of them & used it to make, amongst other things, cheekpieces for me. To date they are the only ones I've seen that have got the front end shape 'exactly so' (going by the predominant variant of the originals), because he made a perfect copy from the original - even down to any minor dings in the surface. In fact we had to cover the surface of the original with filler to prevent this!
